The salts and mud found in the Dead Sea are
unlike any other on earth.
Cleopatra herself made the Dead Sea part of her regular natural skin care regime. For thousands of years people have acclaimed the therapeutic powers of the Dead Sea. The mud and salts found at the lowest point on Earth have been widely used to treat a variety of skin disorders including psoriasis, eczema, and acne.
The healing minerals from the Dead Sea nourish and revitalize skin cells while the intrinsic qualities cleanse and purify, drawing toxins from the body.
Mineral-rich
Healing
The salts and muds found in the Dead Sea are abundantly rich in sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium and bromine. The salts specifically are unique from other salts due to their higher proportions of potassium and magnesium ions vs its relatively low sodium ion content. This means it absorbs into the skin which has supremely greater healing influence for sore, inflamed muscles, fibromyalgia and arthritis than Epsom salt could ever dream of having. Numerous scientific studies about Dead Sea water balneotherapy (use of baths containing thermal mineral waters) and their astounding positive effects on a range of ailments including rheumatologic diseases, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis (spinal aging) and knee osteoarthritis can be found in the National Institute of Health (NIH) National Library of Medicine at nih.gov. Simply search Dead Sea,Dead Sea salt or Dead Sea mud. Endless studies for various reasons will pop up for you to read.
We know, we know, Epsom was the magic for generations, our grandparents swore by it. . .
but that’s marketing for you!
Just like canned Green Giant vegetables are marketed as being “healthy”.
Sure (to be said sarcastically).
Epsom is comprised of magnesium, sulfur and oxygen. Only one “scientific” study has shown the body to absorb Epsom’s magnesium and retain some of it for a short period. This study has not been peer reviewed and can only found on Epsom’s website. The validity of the findings has not been confirmed, therefore it is not a credible scientific review. There is no credible scientific evidence that proves Epsom salt actually works as advertised. The placebo effect is more likely the case for anyone who believes it is effective.
So get in your baths and practice thalassotherapy! The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans would bathe in the buoyant waters and rub the healthy marine, mineral-rich mud all over their bodies to cleanse, soothe, revitalize and heal the skin.
Nature’sRepair: Independent Research…
Summer, creator of Nature’sRepair and pictured to the left, can personally attest to the immediate relief a Dead Sea salt bath provided for her after too many weeks with multiple long, daily surf sessions and little to no stretching before or after.
(Sometimes she forgets she’s in her mid 40’s…)
As you know, she is extremely meticulous about what she puts in and on her body. After much research, while foam rolling and stretching that provided little relief, she finally dove into balneotherapy with Dead Sea salt and immediately felt significant reprieve in her shoulders. She also noticed her skin was incredibly softer the next morning, which her skin is already silky to the touch so it had to be a pretty substantial change! She does not ever exfoliate in the conventional way because it causes skin damage her body would have to spend energy repairing, but now she has found a new way of exfoliating, the way nature intended.
Practice effective balneotherapy
Make sure your bath water is warm and NOT hot. Using water that is too hot will dehydrate your skin. The Dead Sea salts with warm water will help hydrate your skin which reduces wrinkles and can make fine lines disappear!
Do NOT crush Dead Sea salt and mix with oil for the purpose of exfoliating!! We have seen this on the internet, it must have been thought up by someone who knows nothing about the skin and the care it needs. Doing this will cause damage to your skin! Salt does not “melt” or dissolve in oil the way it does in water. Simply allowing your skin to soak in the Dead Sea water will naturally exfoliate it. The perfect blend of minerals will naturally slough off the appropriate dead skin cells. As we always say, stay close to nature! She always knows what she is doing and has every answer.
